Andrew Massey Named Next EPCHS Baseball Head Coach

EVERGREEN PARK, IL – Andrew Massey has been named the next head coach of the Evergreen Park Community High School baseball program. Massey will lead the Mustangs’ varsity team after spending two seasons as an assistant baseball coach here at Evergreen Park.

“We want to make conference championships and winning seasons the standard moving forward for Evergreen Park baseball,” Massey said. “Our primary objective on the field is to develop players who can play at the next level and learning how to win will be a part of that process.”

Massey has been involved in baseball as either a player or coach for many years. After a stellar prep career at St. Rita of Cascia High School in Chicago, Massey played collegiately at the University of Tennessee-Martin and then Concordia University in Chicago.

At Concordia, Massey made the All-Northern Athletics Collegiate College first team and won the conference batting title his junior year in 2016. He was also named to the All-Region team that year.

Before landing at Evergreen Park prior the start of the 2021-2022 school year, Massey was an assistant baseball coach for two seasons at Brother Rice High School in Chicago. He’s also a social studies teacher at EPCHS.

Massey succeeds Mark Smyth in the Evergreen Park head coaching role. Smyth, who retired earlier this month, won 350 games over 23 seasons as the Mustangs head coach.

“Off the field we want to continue to build strong relationships with our players,” Massey said. “We want to stress that being a good teammate, student and member of the community comes before being just a good baseball player.”
