EVERGREEN PARK, IL – A school record that stood for nearly 40 years at Evergreen Park Community High School has been broken.
Carmela Woods, a senior on the EPCHS Girls Track team, is the new record holder in the 400-meter dash event. She set the new mark – a time of 59.33 seconds – at the Chicago Christian Invite on April 28. The run was good enough to win first place in the event as well.
“Carmela is having a great season with much more still to achieve,” EPCHS Girls Track Head Coach Greg Geyer said. “She is showing her dedicated off season and solid work ethic at practice will pay off.”
Woods’ record surpassed a mark set in 1984 by EPCHS alum Clare Haugh. Haugh’s best time in the 400-meter dash is a minute flat.
