Dear EPCHS Families:
As the calendar has hit March, we'd like to express our appreciation for your continued dedication to our school community. We've already seen quite a few stellar accomplishments coming from our students this year, and look forward to celebrating many more as we progress further into 2025.
February in particular was a month filled with great successes at Evergreen Park Community High School. We were thrilled to see senior wrestling athlete Genesis Ward make his way up to the podium at the state finals - with three of his teammates who also qualified for state in attendance - by finishing in 4th place among everyone in his weight class statewide. Our wrestling program as a whole has wrapped up another spectacular season. The team won the South Suburban Red Conference championship for the third year in a row and Head Coach Ron Zimmerman was named the conference Coach of the Year for the third straight year as well.
On the basketball court, our girls team amassed the 20-win total, and Keshaun Vaval, the star player on our boys team, became the second Evergreen Park basketball player in as many years to reach 1,000 career points.
We also saw several students represent our school at the state level. In addition to the wrestling group, Xalani Mitchell qualified as an individual in girls bowling, and our chess team made it to state for the third time in the last four years. Next month, the Mustang Mathletes will send at least eight students to the state finals in that event. Another kudos goes out to our scholastic bowl squad, which won the varsity conference championship for the second consecutive year.
Academically, March is a perfect time to check-in with your child and ensure they remain on a path to success this year. It's also time to start planning for what the 2025-2026 school year will look like. We'd like for you to encourage your child to meet with his or her counselor and explore the options available to them when selecting their courses for next year. EPCHS has a tremendous amount of curriculum offerings, including many courses that can earn college credit for our students.
Parent-teacher conferences will be held this month on March 18. Make sure to double check the time you've scheduled with your child's teachers as to help make this process go as smoothly as it has in the past.
Sincerely,
Thomas O'Malley, Superintendent
