Our Mustang varsity wrestling squad won the Pontiac Invitational over the weekend!

Evergreen Park scored 226 points as a team in the Saturday meet that included 19 schools from across Illinois, topping Morton High School by a single point to earn the team championship.

It was a "total team effort," EPCHS Wrestling Head Coach Ron Zimmerman said.

The Mustangs had four wrestlers win titles at their weight divisions: Yohan Bonilla at 106, David Johnson at 144, Eduardo Antunez at 215 and Gerald O'Hare at 285. Chance Woods (126 weight division) and Genesis Ward (190) both added second place finishes for Evergreen Park.

Also scoring high for the Mustangs were Ryan Serna (4th place at 150), Ashton Gray (5th at 138), Angel Ramirez (6th at 120), Ben Sanchez (6th at 132) and Noah Moreno (6th at 157).

"We have a solid team this year that understands what it takes to be competitive," Zimmerman said. "My kids came off a huge win Friday night against Oak Forest, and then made the two-hour trip to Pontiac the next morning."
