EVERGREEN PARK, IL — Chance Woods, an incoming junior wrestler at Evergreen Park Community High School, will have a chance to showcase his stellar abilities among the nation’s best high school wrestlers. Woods, who qualified for the IHSA state finals earlier this year as an individual wrestler, will compete for Team Illinois at the 2024 U.S. Marine Corps Junior & 16U Nationals that will be held at the FargoDome in Fargo, North Dakota, from July 12-20, 2024.
Woods qualified for the prestigious event by placing among the top three in the 144 weight class at the Greco-Roman State Championships held at Oak Forest High School in April. As part of Team Illinois, Woods will compete against many of the best high school wrestlers in his weight class from other states across the nation.
“I’ve been training for this for quite some time,” Woods said. “It’s one of the biggest tournaments in the U.S., and an event that can go a long way in getting recruited.”
Woods added that his goal at nationals is to “win a couple of matches, and, ultimately, place.”
