EVERGREEN PARK, IL - The Competitive Dance team at Evergreen Park Community High School completed their stellar season by winning state championships at both the varsity and junior varsity levels. Both Mustang dance squads won the Illinois Dance Team Association state championships in the hip hop division this past weekend at the Bank of Springfield Center in Springfield, Illinois. 

EPCHS Competitive Dance Head Coach Marion Castillo said this is the first time the Mustangs have competed in IDTA, which was no easy task since both varsity and JV squads needed to qualify for the state finals in order to do so. 

"These dancers not only qualified during their season but are the 2026 JV & 2A varsity hip hop state champions with this being their first time," Castillo said. "This is an amazing accomplishment and achievement for our dancers; as these student athletes had no dance experience coming into EP. 

"They work hard and strive to be the best they can be. We are extremely proud of them."
