Five Evergreen Park Community High School students competed in the Advice Beyond the Classroom state championship Thursday at the Union League Club of Chicago, becoming the first group of Evergreen Park Mustangs to participate in the event in school history.

Advice Beyond the Classroom is a voluntary program that helps students interested in constructing the foundation of their future professional success through curriculum and access to the program's extensive network of alumni and professional mentors who are driven to empower and guide future leaders to success, according to the program's website.

EPCHS finished as the runner-up as a team in the state championship, which included three other Chicago-area schools.

Additionally, EPCHS senior Micky Joyce was voted the top overall speaker and presenter out of all students participating from all four schools.

Other EPCHS students who participated in the event include Rocco Cipolla, Lilli Gleason, Maggie Joyce and Sheridan Stiles. In addition to the five who competed on Thursday, seniors Jack Hughes and Colin Kelly also participated in the program throughout the school year.
