EVERGREEN PARK, IL – Two seniors from Evergreen Park Community High School have earned IT Essentials badges from the Cisco Networking Academy, a global education program that teaches students how to design, build, troubleshoot and secure computer networks.
Megan Klimowski and Muhammad Asim are the first EPCHS students to earn the Cisco badge in recent years, business and technology teacher Terence Masterson said.
“Evergreen Park Community High School is extremely proud of Megan and Muhammad for their hard work and dedication in earning this badge,” Masterson said. “Their commitment to learning and improving their skills has been evident every step of the way. This achievement is more than just a certification — it’s a testament to their determination and problem-solving abilities.”
Cisco, one of the largest I.T. companies in the world, offers this badge as a recognition of foundational I.T. skills, making it a significant milestone for these students.
“Not only does it validate their abilities, but it also opens the door to future opportunities in the I.T. field,” Masterson said. “I have no doubt that their perseverance and passion will lead them to even greater success, and I look forward to seeing all they accomplish in the future.”
Cisco’s IT Essentials badge goes to students who successfully complete the IT essentials course and demonstrate a foundation knowledge in computer hardware and software, as well as operating systems, networking concepts, mobile devices, troubleshooting and responsibilities of an IT professional.
Badge earners like Klimowski and Asim have also participated in up to 128 interactive activities and have accumulated up to 26 hours of hands-on labs using hardware and/or the Cisco Packet Tracer tool.
The course completed successfully by the two EPCHS seniors provides fundamental knowledge and practical skills needed to succeed in IT. Those who complete the course are able to understand the basics of computer hardware and software, including mobile devices, operating systems, virtualization and cloud computing.
