G. Joseph Mortimer

• Graduate, EPCHS Class of 1961

• Earned B.S. from Northern Illinois University in 1966, followed by his Master’s Degree in Education in 1969 and type 75 Certification in 1982

• Educator and coach for thirty-seven years, ten at Oregon, Conant, and Stagg H.S.; twenty-seven at Victor J. Andrew High School

. • Earned University of Chicago – Outstanding Teacher Award 1984

• Earned Illinois Math and Science Academy – Award for Teacher Excellence 1996

• Elected to Illinois Track & Cross Country Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1998

• Coached 120 Illinois State Qualifiers in Cross Country and Track; Coached 19 All-State Cross Country and Track & Field athletes

• Coached the only runner in Illinois State History to win the Distance Grand Slam – State Championships in 1600 meters, 3200 meters & 5000 meters (National Footlocker Title)
