Joe Ziemba (Class of 1967)
Joe Ziemba, a proud 1967 E.P.C.H.S. graduate, authored the 1999 book, When Football Was Football: The Chicago Cardinals and the Birth of the NFL. His book, which traces the history of old Chicago football from the 1890s to the 1960s, won a Nelson Ross Award, an award presented annually by the Professional Football Researchers' Association for "outstanding achievement in pro football research and historiography." It also received praise from the Chicago Sun-Times, as well as The Coffin Corner, which described the book as "meticulously-researched but smoothly-written" and that Ziemba "can give the real story behind the legend."
